Young Money rappers Lil Wayne and Drake, who are currently on tour together, were involved in an altercation after their concert in Atlanta.
The two rappers had to be separated by security after an argument quickly escalated to exchanging punches, giving the “Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour” a completely new meaning. Drake was already upset with Wayne after he arrived to the concert late and under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The tension between the rappers has been well documented over the past year.
Last year, Drake cut all ties with Cash Money and began to work on his own label (OVO Sound) and his own projects. Drake appeared on only one track on Young Money’s recent album “Young Money: Rise of an Empire.” Aside from a small number of vocals from Birdman, no Cash Money artist appeared on Drake’s latest album “Nothing Was The Same.”
In November of 2013, Nicki Minaj, who was unhappy about not appearing on Drake’s album, spoke about his hiatus from Cash Money and stated she would never shut them out the way he has.”No, I’m Young Money ’til the death of me,” Nicki revealed. “Drake can do what Drake do but Nicki Minaj is a whole different person. I think your team is your team. Who gives a f*** about trying to be different? I’m always going to want my team to be a part of my project, no matter what, in some way.”
During the altercation after the Drake vs. Lil Wayne concert, a source revealed Drake approached Lil Wayne in an aggressive manner to talk about his tardiness, and Wayne wanted no part of the conversation. As Wayne attempted to walk away, Drake snatched him backwards by his dreads, slamming him to the ground. Wayne got up swinging wildly, but was unable to land a blow. Security quickly moved in and separated the two.
The source stated the pair are “good” and this incident will have no affect on the tour or their business relationship. “Man them boys are good,” the source stated. “They are like brothers and stay getting into little fights. They will have a drink, smoke a blunt, and laugh this off like always.”
Given their shaky history, one can only wonder if the friendship between the Grammy Award winning rappers is beginning to fragment.
