Following the trend of movies based on the Bible, such as “Noah” and the upcoming “Gods of Egypt”, Paramount Pictures recently revealed that they have hired Kanye West to play the apostle Paul in a new Bible-based film. The film, titled “The Apostles” is based on the Bible book of Acts and will showcase the life of the apostle Paul as he tries to spread the Gospel throughout the Middle East in the wake of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
“This will be my first major performance in film,” said Kanye in a recent interview. “I feel like I can relate to the apostle Paul because he had a divine revelation that inspired him to spread his message. I feel the same way. With everything, my music, my fashion, I feel like I’ve been divinely inspired to share my message through my art. So that’s why, when the opportunity arose for me to play this part, I felt like I had to do it. I’m really excited about this movie.”
Kanye West, known for his controversial antics, critically acclaimed albums, and marriage to Kim Kardashian, will also be producing the soundtrack for the film. In an interview with Brad Grey, the C.E.O. of Paramount Pictures, he said “We really think Kanye West can bring the energy necessary to play such a powerful role. We also highly anticipate his musical contributions to the film. This is the first time that I know of where a movie based on the Bible will feature a hip-hop soundtrack. We really think that this is an effective way to reach the youth, repackaging time-honored and beloved Bible stories with a fresh urban flair.”
Sources say that Kim Kardashian was also approached for a role in the film. Her part is unknown, but she has shown her acting chops before, notably in the 2013 film “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confession of A Marriage Counselor”.
